  • Spanish Love

For my love of the Spanish language, culture, people and food:

    Tapeo, Boston, MA
    Garlic Shrimp
Sauteed Cod Cakes with Mustard Sauce
    Grilled Spanish Sausage
Asparagus Stuffed Filet of Sole in Cava Wine Sauce
    Scallops in Saffron Cream
    Garlicky Chicken

The meal wasn't entirely impressive but satisfactory. Only after studying the menu and confirming on its website that we realized Tapeo is in fact Dali's sister restaurant. Darn.

Nothing other than great food happens. 21 days till freedom. Only hoping my Colombian friend gets married really soon so I have an excuse to visit.

  • Couldn't Sleep

What would you do if you couldn't fall asleep at 4AM? I went to bed at 1:30AM, wasted 40 minutes in bed and gave up trying to fall asleep.  This was, of course, because I fell asleep at 5AM the morning before and woke up at 12PM only to run to class.  I have been telling myself that as long as I get the signatures on my thesis in 24 days (yes, I actually count down by the hour), it really doesn't matter whether I lead a healthy and reasonable lifestyle right now.  College years have trained me to do work better late in the evening, but hell, I want a normal lifestyle that gives me more than 8 hours of daylight each day! Why do I actually write faster with fewer grumbles at 4AM?

I tried to induce sleepiness with alcohol but one or more of the following must be happening: (1) I am not drinking enough, (2) I am just too well rested, or (3) I think too much when I try to fall asleep.  I think (2) and (3) are most likely. What reasonably motivated and diligently hardworking graduate student at this school would sleep over 60 hours a week? I seriously think I sleep more than I do work. (my advisors and research sponsor are certainly not seeing this) Not to mention I also watch at least 3 movies a week, depending on how fast netflix comes.

When I was lying in bed just now, I realized there were only 6 weeks left before I had to move out.  After I miraculously obtain the very important signatures in 24 days, I'll be rushing off to good old Ithaca for the long weekend, then 3 days back in Boston mad packing, then 7 days in London, then 1 day in Boston mad packing, then family arrives for commencement, then 4 more days before we fly off for the Canadian Rockies and finally, finally say goodbye to Boston.  Oh, I didn't mention between signature and London I should be putting together this all-so-important (not to me) presentation to my generous sponsor at the Underground.  From my notorious packing history, 8 days of intensive packing just aren't going to do it. And here I am, at 4:25AM, worrying about something I shouldn't be worrying about until 4 weeks later.
